Meet Your Coach.
Welcome! My name is Jonathan Sturcken, and I’m proud to call the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain, just outside New Orleans, Louisiana, my home. My lifelong passion for the arts led me to pursue formal training at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA, and Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Since returning to the New Orleans area in 2013, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a vocal educator, clinician, and adjudicator, all while witnessing the incredible wealth of talent our community has to offer.
You may recognize me from WYLK The Lake 94.7FM, where I hosted Music with the Maestro, a weekly radio show showcasing new and emerging artists. During the pandemic in 2020, I deepened my expertise by training with Voice Health Education based in London. I became one of the first educators in the Gulf South region certified in Vocal Health First Aid. This specialized training equips me to guide singers in making sustainable vocal choices while addressing the physical, mental, and environmental factors that affect their vocal well-being. When challenges arise, I can assess vocal dysfunction or imbalance and assist in self-management or connect clients with the appropriate vocal rehabilitation or clinical specialists.
In addition to my work as a vocal coach, I have had the opportunity to serve as Music Director and Sound Designer for a variety of theatrical productions. This role often requires me to work with advanced audio technology to ensure the best sound quality for performances. In 2024, I began continuing my education at Berklee College of Music, specializing in Audio Engineering and Sound Design for live events. This ongoing training allows me to better serve my clients in musical theater and the recording industry, ensuring they sound their best in any venue or setting.
Every voice is as unique as the individual who wields it, and that uniqueness is at the core of my passion for this field. I find immense joy in working with both aspiring and professional artists, creating a supportive, judgment-free environment that fosters the realization of each singer’s potential. My approach is rooted in the Biopsychosocial model, which recognizes the interconnectedness of biological, psychological, and social factors in vocal performance. This holistic understanding helps performers connect fully with their instrument—their voice—in an authentic, sustainable way.
Singing is deeply personal, and vocal challenges can often feel discouraging. I believe these challenges should be approached head-on, with empathy and encouragement, never at the cost of a performer’s spirit. Whether you’re striving to enhance your vocal technique, strengthen your confidence, or overcome vocal hurdles, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
Let’s uncover the potential of your unique voice together.
